Attendees of the Misa de Gallo (dawn Mass) at the Holy Cross Parish in Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City participated in a call to gift-giving by hanging miniature "bayongs" (traditional handwoven bags) and "ang paos" (red packets) to an Advent Tree.

The call was done toward the culmination of the first of nine dawn Masses on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.

The amount collected from these bayongs and red packets will help an adopted parish in Barangay Nailon, Bogo City, Cebu which is on its road to recovery, said Rev. Fr. Frumencio Mahusay, Mass presider.

Mahusay, in his homily, emphasized that Christmas is more about giving, and less of receiving.

Incorporating this principle in nurturing children will create more generous, compassionate persons, and less greedy, corrupt personalities, he stressed.

To recall, Barangay Nailon (na-ee-lon) is one of areas in northern Cebu devastated by a powerful earthquake in September 2025.

In Nailon, 200 to 300 houses were devastated, according to Barangay Chairman Regan Metante in an interview with GMA Regional TV Balitang Bisdak on October 7, 2025, or a week after the deadly earthquake struck.
