The fur mom who saved her dogs amid a burning establishment was commended by the Mandaue City Government.

Officials of the Mandaue City Government commended Ei Mei Lee Chiu-Maningo for her courage and composure amid a fire that struck a commercial establishment in Barangay Guizo on December 10, 2025.

The City Council handed over the commendation to Maningo during its regular Council session on Monday, December 15.

Maningo went viral for putting her life on the line while saving her fur babies - Miyah and Kayen.

She dropped her two fur babies first to the responding firefighters, as seen in the viral video, before she proceeded to go down with the help of a fire ladder.

The video showed her difficulty in reaching for the fire ladder using her feet while holding on to a portion of the terrace on the third floor, but she persevered in spite of the apparent challenges. She was able to get down from the burning building safely despite sustaining abrasions.

Mayor Thadeo (Jonkie) Ouano handed over the commendation to Maningo.

The commendation was supported by a resolution passed by Councilor Jen Del Mar.

In her message, Maningo reminds fur parents and pet owners to always be responsible and loving to their pets, to always be mindful of their pets’ welfare.

“Let us be responsible, kay ang pets nato they don’t have a way of saying unsa ilang na-feel, so we must be responsible enough and compassionate enough nga i-take care gyud atong mga alaga,” Maningo underscored.

Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, Councilors Jen Del Mar,  Eugene Andaya, Fritz Villamor, Atty. Carlo Fortuna, Ben Basiga, Atty. Joel Seno, Jimmy Lumapas, Marie Immaline Cortes-Zafra, Anjong Ouano Icalina, Ting Sol, and Jun Arcilla; and Barangay Chairman Dante Borbajo, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay graced the event.
