Police discovered a cache of abandoned illegal firecrackers and materials in a remote area in Barangay Malabago, Calasiao, Pangasinan.

Authorities found the items hidden under a mango tree. These included two boxes of dynamite firecrackers, one box of sinturon ni Judas, half a box of Five Star firecrackers, 12 sacks and one box of firecracker cases, and a plastic bag of firecracker fuses.

The items seized were estimated to be worth about P25,000.

Police said no person was found at the scene. They believe those behind the illegal firecrackers may have fled after learning that authorities were after them.

The firecrackers will be turned over to the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office for proper handling and disposal.

“Inaalam kung sino ang may-ari ng lote para imbestigahan. On-going pa iyong investigation natin para kung makompleto natin iyon at mayroong probable cause na ma-file na kaso, i-file natin ng kaso ang mga suspek,” PCpt. Godofrey Mercado, operations officer of Calasiao Police Station, said.

As of press time, police continue to investigate to identify those responsible and to prevent the sale and use of illegal firecrackers in the area.
