Traffic built up after bundles of scrap materials fell from a truck traveling on the national road in Barangay Mabuhay, General Santos City shortly before midday on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
The scrap materials, waste products from tin cans, were purchased from a company in Polomolok, South Cotabato.
The truck was navigating a curved portion of the road when it tilted to its side and the cargo got disengaged.
According to some workers of a junk shop, the truck lost balance due to the uneven distribution of its cargo.
Heavier materials were reportedly loaded on top, causing the vehicle to tilt and the load to fall.
“Bug-at ba ang iyang karga sa taas, sa baba gamay ra og karga ba dili kaayo bug-at, gaan lang. Bale katung bug-at nga karga sa taas mao tung hinungdan nga mitagilid siya ug nahagbung,” junk shop worker, Jeffrey David, said.
The incident caused heavy traffic in the area, forcing large vehicles to pass along the side of the road.
Traffic flow returned to normal after materials that got scattered on the road were loaded back into large containers.
