Vegetable prices in some markets in Pangasinan climbed again just days before Christmas Day as demand continued to rise and supply remained limited, especially for highland vegetables.

Vendors at the Mangaldan Public Market said prices of carrots, cabbage, and Baguio or Benguet beans increased by as much as 20 percent. Traders linked the hike to low supply, as farms were affected by recent weather disturbances.

Rex Sanio, a representative of the Benguet Farmers and Vendors Association said harvests remain scarce.

“As of now, talagang mataas kasi gawa ng bagyo. Talagang madalang, halos walang ma-harvest talaga na Baguio beans ngayon,” Sanio said.

The prices of vegetables per kilo as of December 17, 2025, based on data from the Mangaldan Public Market:

  • Potatoes - P80 - P100
  • Carrots - P80 - P100
  • Bell Pepper - P150 - P170
  • Chayote - P100 - P120
  • Cabbage - P80 - P100
  • Benguet/Baguio Beans - P250 - P300
  • Eggplant - P120
  • Tomatoes - P150 - P170
  • String Beans - P100
  • Okra - P80

Fanny Soriano, a vegetable vendor, said the supply shortage may continue in the coming days.

“Kaunti ang supply ngayon kasi nga naapektuhan talaga ang mga tanim na gulay last month. Siguro hanggang next week ganito,” she said.

With prices going up, shoppers said they are adjusting their spending to cope.

Lolie Frianeza, a shopper, said budgeting has become necessary.

“Tipid-tipid talaga kung paanong i-budget na lang ‘yung pera kasi ang mahal talaga,” she said.

Market officials expect prices to remain high until vegetable supply improves after farms recover from weather-related damage.
