A segment of the Davao City Coastal Road project was opened to motorists on Friday, December 19, 2025, after the opening was postponed twice by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
With the opening of the project’s Segment B (Tulip Drive-Roxas), vehicles can now pass through the Davao River Bucana Bridge, which is a key portion of the project.
The road was opened to motorists around 6 a.m.
Shortly after it was opened, traffic along the southbound lane toward Roxas slowed due to the volume of vehicles while the northbound lane from Roxas Avenue to Tulip Drive remained light.
Segment B has four main lanes and two additional lanes for alternating traffic directions. Personnel from the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) are managing the flow of traffic.
“Gikan ka sa Boulevard padulong ka og south di ka pwede mo-left turn, ang buhaton nato pwede naka mo-right turn sa Fatima sa Jacinto unya left turn sa Aurora then left turn sa Roxas tuloy-tuloy lang ka. Ang gikan Coastal pagawas sa Boulevard dili pwede mo-left right turn sa siya,” CTTMO Head, Retired Col. Dionisio Abude, said.
Road works near Roxas Avenue continue, as of this writing. A barricade was also put up at the area where there is a large hole, and streetlights have also been installed.
It can be recalled that acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte slammed the supposed opening of the road on December 15 as announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., calling it premature as the project remains unfinished and poses safety risks due to lack of safety measures such as streetlights and traffic signages at that time.
DPWH moved the opening on December 16 but later canceled it.
The Bucana Bridge, which is part of Segment B, is funded with P3.1 billion from China.
