A video showed of a man in blue, face to the ground, by the roadside in Bacolod City on Monday, December 22, 2025. He sustained a gunshot wound on his foot.
In another video, a man was seen with a cloth wrapped around his head due to the wound he sustained.
The video was taken at the downtown area of Bacolod City past 7 a.m.
The man lying prostrate on the ground is alias “Jun,” while the man with a wound on the head is Police Chief Master Sergeant Johnny dela Peña, traffic investigator assigned at Police Station 1 in Bacolod City.
According to a few witnesses, alias “Jun” chased the police and punched him.
“Naglalakad lang naman ang pulis. Doon sa Central Market, sinuntok niya ang pulis, hindi nga ito gumanti. Umalis ito ngunit sinundan pa niya. May bitbit siyang tubo at kutsilyo,” Merly Uy, a witness, said.
Other witnesses said that the suspect was drunk.
They said that the policeman tried to evade the suspect, but the latter tried to hit him with a steel pipe repeatedly.
“Ang pulis, tinamaan siya sa ulo. Umiilag siya habang hinahampas. Siguro hindi na siya nakatiis, nakita na namin, kinuha na niya ang kanyang armas,” said Analiza Cortez, a witness.
The suspect was shot in the foot.
According to the police, the victim was on his way to report for duty. He had his service firearm with him, but was not yet in uniform.
“Bigla na lang nanghampas ang suspek. Patuloy lang ito sa pag-atake. Kinuha niya [pulis] ang kanyang personal na issued firearm. Nagpakilala nga itong pulis kaya lang patuloy pa rin ito. Hanggang sa nabaril na siya [suspect] sa paa,” Captain Francis Depasucat, chief of the Bacolod City Police Station 1, said.
Both are receiving treatment at the hospital, as of this writing.
The suspect is under hospital arrest.
Police are investigating the motive of the suspect in attacking the policeman.
