A 44-year-old man was stabbed to death by his neighbor in Barangay Consolacion, Cagayan de Oro City dawn on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Police said the incident happened while the two were drinking together.
The two reportedly had a prior conflict.
According to Major Byron-John Ratunil, commander of Police Station 1, the victim and the suspect figured in an altercation two weeks earlier during another drinking session. The victim allegedly blamed the suspect about a damage to an expensive watch.
“Two weeks ago, nag- inom sila aning biktima wherein ang kauban nila sa inom relatives ra pud sa biktima. Allegedly, ang biktima that time na’y mahalon nga relo during sa ilang pag-inom naguba daw, si suspek iyang gipasanginlan,” Ratunil said.
The victim sustained three stab wounds. He was brought to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) but was declared dead on arrival.
Operatives arrested the suspect during hot pursuit in Barangay Lapasan, where he was hiding.
“Sa pag-hot pursuit nato ug pag-apprehend sa suspect iyang gi-divulge nga iya daw gilabay sa creek or sa suba ang iyang gamit sa pagdunggab,” Ratunil added.
The suspect may face murder charges.
