A 47-year-old man in Zamboanga City was arrested for allegedly selling firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices online illegally.

Authorities identified the suspect as a resident of Nuñez Extension in Barangay Camino Nuevo.

Personnel of the City Investigation and Detective Management Unit (CIDMU) launched an entrapment operation after receiving information about the alleged illegal sale of firecrackers online.

The city government said the suspect was found to be operating without the required special business permit, which is a violation of Republic Act 7183 or An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices.

Seized from the suspect were firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices worth around P500,000.

The local government reminded the public about the City Ordinance 632, which regulates all forms of firecrackers in accordance with the provisions of RA 7183 and allows the limited use, sale, possession, distribution, and storage of consumer pyrotechnics in the city.

The local government added that the arrest of the suspect serves as a warning to all those who engaged or are planning to engage in similar illegal activity during the New Year celebration.
