An amusement ride collapsed at a local fair in San Jacinto, Pangasinan on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2025, injuring several passengers, according to police.
Contributed video taken moments before the incident showed riders laughing and enjoying the attraction. Seconds later, panic spread as the ride malfunctioned and gave way, leaving some passengers lying on the ground.
Police said around 30 people were on board the ride when it collapsed. At least 12 of them were rushed to hospitals nearby for treatment. Others sustained minor injuries.
San Jacinto police chief, PMaj. Napoleon Velasco, Jr. said initial findings point to a structural failure in the middle portion of the ride.
“Nag-collapse sa gitna, bumigay ‘yung welding sa gitna, nabali, so hindi naman bumagsak however sumadsad siya noong nag-collapse,” Velasco said.
Among those injured was a 19-year-old woman who works at the fair and was riding the attraction at the time of the incident. She suffered from bruises and minor wounds but did not require hospital treatment.
She said she did not expect the ride to fail because it passed safety inspections regularly.
"Noong una, okay pa naman tapos noong sumunod na, doon na nasira, 'yung nasa baba ang nadaganan," she said.
An 11-year-old child was among those hospitalized. The child’s mother, Jessa Calimlim, appealed for assistance from the fair operator, saying her child continues to feel chest pain after getting pinned during the collapse.
"Masakit ang dibdib ng anak ko… aipit kasi siya. Sana tumulong sila sa gastusin," Calimlim said.
The San Jacinto Police Station said the amusement ride operator has promised financial assistance to the victims. The operator has not issued a statement.
Authorities have suspended the fair’s operations temporarily while investigation continues.
The ride operator declined to issue a statement.
