Cebuanos welcomed Christmas Day peacefully despite authorities confiscating several firecrackers.

In a statement on December 25, 2025, the Police Regional Office (PRO)-7 said the celebration was generally peaceful province-wide.

“Zero incidents tayo sa mga churches, zero incident tayo that will affect the peaceful celebration ng ating Christmas,” said PRO-7 Director, P/BGen. Redrico Maranan.

Despite repeated warnings from authorities, however, several prohibited firecrackers were still confiscated in Talisay City during police operations.

There are no designated firecracker areas in the city.

“Meron po tayong na-confiscate na iba’t-ibang klase ng paputok,” said P/Capt. Kyle Villanueva, Deputy for Operations of the Talisay City Police Office.

“Ginagawa natin, nag-confiscate po tayo para po - in the past few years na may mga insidente na regarding sa paputok - this time po, this year, ma-lessen po ‘yung mga insidente regarding po sa poputok,” Villanueva added.

In Cebu City, residents greeted Christmas Day far less extravagantly compared to previous years.

Many residents in the city and other parts of the province continue to feel the effects of recent disasters, including the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck northern Cebu and the massive flooding that hit central Cebu during Typhoon Tino.

Several families remain in evacuation centers.

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival made sure he would visit constituents there on Christmas Eve.

He said he had hoped his visit would, to an extent, abate the pain the residents felt at a time when joy often prevails.

“Kahibaw ko sila naguol and I realized nga kung ato silang maduol, siguro makuha-kuhaan ang ilang kaguol,” he said.

Cebuanos like Gloria Britania who were spared from the calamities in 2025 continue to be grateful.

“Pasalamat lang gihapon ta nga wala sad mi naunsa… katong linog ug katong bagyo… pasalamat lang gyud mi,” she said.
