Two male siblings were shot to death inside their house in Barangay Sawang Calero, Cebu City on Christmas Day.
The suspects, their own neighbors, shot reportedly the two morning on December 25, 2025.
The victims were identified as Melber and Rommel Fernandez. Melber was reportedly newly released from prison.
Maureen Nabor, the wife of Rommel, said that two men stormed into the house and shot the siblings. Melber was shot first. As Rommel was around and tried to help his brother, the suspects also fired at him.
Merlinda Fernandez, the mother of the victims, described the incident as repeated blows to her heart because the slay happened on Christmas Day, and that it was on her birthday.
She said the incident is the most unpleasant, distressing way of marking one's birthday.
Melber's daughter, alias “Aya,” spent just a few days with her father after about 18 years. Now, she has to deal with the complete loss that comes with his sudden death.
The family said they reckoned the shooting incident was done in revenge.
Years ago, Melber shot a member of the suspects' family which led to his imprisonment.
The suspects vowed reportedly they would kill Melber the moment he is released from prison.
Alias “Bruno,” the gunman, was arrested on the same day.
The suspect tried to run away but was traced four hours later.
Alias "Bruno" owned up to shooting Melber in retaliation.
Police Colonel George Ylanan, director of the Cebu City Police Office (officer-in-charge capacity), lauded the immediate resolution of the case.
The authorities recovered the gun used in perpetrating the crime.
Appropriate charges will be filed against the suspects.
