A customer has complained against a restaurant in Davao City after discovering that the lechon (roasted pig) served to him had maggots.
According to the complainant, he was almost finished eating the lechon when he noticed maggots crawling.
The complainant became furious after realizing that he had already consumed a significant portion of the lechon before noticing the maggots.
The complainant said personnel of the City Veterinary Office and the City Health Office had already confiscated the spoiled lechon.
The restaurant owner had reportedly apologized for the incident.
However, the complainant said he wants the owner penalized, citing concerns that he may have ingested maggots and is worried about possible effects.
The complainant claimed that he experienced stomach pain following the incident.
The restaurant owner refused to comment, as of this writing.
The Department of Health (DOH) has reminded food establishments repeatedly to ensure proper food handling and preparation to prevent contamination.
Health authorities warned that consuming spoiled or contaminated food may lead to serious infections and health risks.
