Firecrackers sold in Mandaue City were seized, including prohibited “boga” or “lantaka” (improvised cannons).

In an intensive operation, the Mandaue City Police seized several firecrackers sold by the roadside.

The confiscation is based on an ordinance signed years back that banned the sale of firecrackers in the city.

The Mandaue City Police Office pointed out that three entities were issued permits to sell, but these are for fireworks only.

Improvised cannons, locally called "lantaka," were also seized for being highly dangerous, especially to children that used these as toys.

“Kay kani man pod ang isa sa mga dahilan sa injury sa mga bata, there are about mga 12 amo nadakpan. I directed all station commander to continue pagkompiska ug pagdakop sa mga illegal,” Police Colonel Cirilo Acosta, Jr., MCPO director, said.

A firecracker-related injury was recorded in Mandaue City on Christmas Eve.

The intensive operation continues in preparation for New Year’s Eve.

“Tinabangay ang katawhan dinhi sa Mandaue, ang atong tumong dapat safe and meaningful ang atong pag-celebrate pag-abot sa Bag-ong Tuig,” Acosta added.
