An animal welfare group has condemned the poisoning of dogs in the Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the group Bantay Hayop reminded the public that inflicting harm or killing animals such as dogs through poisoning is a criminal offense under the Animal Welfare Act of 1998 (RA 8485).

The group said lechon (roasted pig) bones laced with poison were allegedly scattered on the ground in Barangay Sta. Cruz evening on December 19, which killed two dogs.

The incident has been reported to the police, who are now working to identify and locate the person responsible.

The group also urged the public to report any incidents of animal abuse.
