Nine people, including two soldiers, were arrested for allegedly transporting minerals illegally in Opol, Misamis Oriental.
Personnel of the 1001st Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion (RMFB-10) and other police units intercepted two pickup trucks loaded with alleged minerals at a checkpoint in Barangay Limonda on Monday, December 29, 2025.
Police said the two vehicles were allegedly transporting minerals illegally from Barangay Limonda to Davao del Sur.
Upon inspection, the suspects reportedly failed to present the necessary permits and documents for the transport of the minerals.
Seized during the operation were at least 60 sacks of alleged unprocessed minerals worth around P300,000, two pickup trucks, two pistols, and ammunition.
Authorities said two of the nine suspects arrested were active members of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division (10ID).
The suspects arrested were taken into police custody and may face charges for violation of the Philippine Mining Act (RA 7942).
“This operation reflects our firm commitment to enforcing environmental laws and holding accountable those who engage in illegal mining activities. We will continue to strengthen our coordination with partner agencies to protect our natural resources and ensure public safety,” Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) Director, Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano, said.
