Frost or “andap” covered vegetable farms again in Atok, Benguet early morning on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, with farmers reporting thicker frost compared to previous days.

Impact on harvests and supply is minimal.

Video footage from Barangay Paoay showed frost blanketing crops as temperatures dropped before dawn. Farmers said they were already monitoring their fields early in the morning and knew how to respond to prevent damage.

Despite the return of frost, farmers said they are not overly alarmed because many vegetables have already been harvested.

Rowel Laroya, a farmer in Atok, said timely intervention is key to saving crops.

“’Yung rainburst para malusaw agad ang frost, para matunaw agad ang frost o andap. Masisira ang pananim lalo na ang repolyo, iitim talaga,” Laroya said.

Data from the Benguet Farmers and Vegetable Dealers Association showed that the supply of vegetables remains sufficient and is expected to stay stable in the coming weeks. However, prices of some vegetables continue to rise.

Rex Luis, president of the association, said some crops have seen price increases while others remain abundant.

“Ang patatas, tumaas. Carrots, medyo tumaas. Repolyo ang medyo nag-lay-low, pero marami tayong suplay,” Luis said.

Weather officials earlier warned that temperatures may drop further in mountainous and elevated areas of Northern Luzon in January and February 2026 due to the northeast monsoon, or amihan. Farmers said they will continue to closely monitor their crops as colder conditions persist.
