Dagupan City welcomed the New Year in a generally peaceful manner, with police reporting no firecracker-related injuries or stray bullet incidents from New Year’s Eve until morning of New Year’s Day.
Despite continuous firecracker use in parts of Barangay Lucao until midday on January 1, the Dagupan City Police Office (DCPO) said no residents from the city were brought to hospitals due to fireworks-related injuries. Police conducted rounds at hospitals to validate reports and confirmed that no victims from Dagupan were admitted.
DCPO Operation Management Unit chief, PLtCol. Edgar Palaylay, said the situation remained calm overall.
“Masasabi nating generally peaceful dahil wala tayong naitalang insidente kaugnay sa paggamit ng paputok. May vehicular pero minor lang,” he said.
Police also said there were no reported cases of stray bullets during the height of the New Year celebrations.
Ahead of the festivities, police deployed personnel in barangays to remind residents about safety and to arrest those involved in the making and selling of illegal firecrackers.
Palaylay credited local efforts for the peaceful outcome.
“Siguro, epekto ‘yan ng ating maigting na programa ng ating LGU na ‘Paputok ay iwasan, bawal ang palusot,’” he said.
From December 27, 2025, until January 1, 2026, police confiscated various types of firecrackers, which are now stored at DCPO. Authorities said some of the items were illegal, while others were sold without proper permits. The firecrackers confiscated are scheduled to be destroyed on January 7.
Police also maintained fire safety measures, including getting fire extinguishers and water drums ready during the celebrations.
DCPO remains on red alert status until January 2 due to the influx of people at Tondaligan Beach.
Palaylay said police visibility remains high.
“So, ‘yung mga tropa natin hanggang ngayon, nandoon pa sa mga barangay at patuloy pa rin ang pag-iikot,” he said.
After the New Year celebration, stalls at the designated firecracker zone in the city were already vacant, marking the end of authorized firecracker selling in Dagupan.
Police said they will continue monitoring public areas to ensure safety as holiday activities wind down.
