The number of firecracker-related injuries in the SOCCSKSARGEN Region has rose to more than 80, according to the Department of Health-SOCCSKSARGEN (DOH-12).
DOH-12 data showed that up to 80 fireworks-related injuries were recorded from December 21, 2025 to January 2, 2026.
Of the total cases, 18 involved eye injuries, while one case resulted in hearing loss.
South Cotabato recorded the highest number of cases in the region with 34. The kwitis firecracker emerged as the leading cause of fireworks-related injuries, accounting for 17 cases.
DOH-12 said 72 of the victims were male while eight were female. Most of those injured were 18 years old and below.
Health authorities said the number of cases highlight the crucial role of parents in preventing fireworks-related injuries, especially among minors.
