A 35-year-old man in Tagum City, Davao del Norte was arrested in an buy-bust operation for alleged illegal possession and sale of a ball python on Sunday, January 4, 2026.
According to the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Maritime Group, the suspect was identified as alias “Ric,” a resident of Toril, Davao City.
During the operation, one live yellow ball python worth around P8,000 was confiscated.
The suspect and seized snake were brought to the Davao del Norte Maritime Police Station.
He may face charges for violation of the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147).
Authorities reminded the public that the sale, possession, and trade of wildlife species are prohibited, and violators will face penalties under the law.
“Patuloy ang paalala ng PNP at DENR sa publiko na mahigpit na ipinagbabawal ang pagbebenta, pag-mamayari, at pangangalakal ng mga wildlife species, at sinumang lalabag ay mahaharap sa kaukulang parusa alinsunod sa batas,” PNP-Maritime Group said.
