The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Balamban, Cebu has reiterated its advice to motorists traversing the Transcentral Highway (TCH), particularly in Barangays Cansomoroy to Gaas to be cautious, or to avoid the area because of a landslide.

In a video uploaded by Balamban resident Jose Juarez Canedo on Monday, January 5, 2026, a landslide occurred again in the area due to days of rain dumped by the shear line.

Individuals were seen in the video walking on muddy road after deposits of soil, gravel, and other debris have obstructed a portion of the highway.

According to Desiree Suroy-suroy, a staff member of MDRRMO Balamban, landslides have occurred in the area since Typhoon Tino battered Cebu on November 4, 2025.

At the slightest rain, a portion of the mountainside would slide down, she said.

Further, it was learned that clearing operation is facilitated immediately, and assistance to travelers and vehicles is provided through the constant monitoring of the Balamban MDRRMO, Cebu Provincial DRRMO, and the Department of Public Works and Highways in the event of landslides.
