At least 14 families were affected after three barangays in Tboli, South Cotabato experienced flooding following heavy rains.

In a video captured by a resident, floodwaters from a creek in Barangay Poblacion swelled and eventually overflowed after heavy rain poured afternoon on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Another video showed debris and other objects floating and drifting.

Several motorists were stranded after floodwaters overtopped a spillway.

In Barangay Desawo, floodwaters entered and damaged several houses.

A bridge in the area was also damaged. Rehabilitation is ongoing, as of this writing.

No one was reported hurt in the incident.

According to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the barangays affected are Poblacion, Lemsnolon, and Desawo.

The families affected are taking shelter temporarily at the evacuation centers. They were given immediate assistance by the local government.

“Oo, duol sa tulay. Tapos, sa ibabaw duol sa sapa ang balay,” MDRRMO Tboli Search and Rescue Officer, Jason Renoblas, said.

Meanwhile, a backhoe was seen struggling and nearly swept away by floodwaters in Barangay Luna Sur, Makilala, Cotabato on December 30, 2025.

The equipment was part of the construction of a flood control project in the area.

The 21-year-old driver was unharmed.

State weather bureau PAGASA said the bad weather experienced in Mindanao at that time was due to the easterlies.
