Authorities in Albay have ordered the evacuation of residents within the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) of Mayon Volcano following the volcano’s raise to Alert Level 3. The advisory was issued by the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) through APSEMO on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The evacuation is effective immediately and applies to all towns inside the PDZ. Local disaster offices are tasked to monitor the situation around the clock and submit updates to APSEMO. Authorities also warned against any human activity in the danger zone, including mountain climbing, harvesting, or other outdoor work.
Schools located within the PDZ will suspend classes at all levels. Facilities that serve as evacuation centers will continue operations, while students are advised to shift to alternative learning modalities in coordination with local government units.
Security measures have been put in place by the Philippine National Police – Albay Provincial Office and the Philippine Army to prevent unauthorized entry into the hazard zone.
Recreational activities such as ATV rides are temporarily restricted to the Cagsawa Ruins area, while entry to tourist spots like Mayon Skyline is suspended temporarily.
The advisory also included safety measures for ashfall. Residents are urged to cover their nose and mouth using a face mask or damp cloth if ash is present. City, municipal, and barangay disaster offices around Mayon have been placed on the highest alert and are closely monitoring conditions.
Authorities reminded the public to remain alert and follow updates from PHIVOLCS and local government units.
