A 41-year-old man who had been missing for two days was found dead after falling into a river in Zamboanga City.
Residents found the man’s body floating at the Tumaga-Guiwan River around 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The man was identified positively by his wife.
Authorities have been searching for the man for two days after he was swept away by strong river currrents in River Village in Barangay Tetuan evening on Sunday, January 4 2026.
Police said the man had been drinking at a house near the river before telling his companions that he wanted to swim. However, as he attempted to dive, he reportedly slipped and fell into the river, which had a high water level at that time due to heavy rains in the upland areas.
A barangay official said there was no riprap at the portion of the riverbank where the man slipped.
“Kay naglingaw-lingaw gayod. Katong side sa suba, walay riprap. Mao to, nadanlog, nahagbong. Hubog to,” Barangay Tumaga Councilman Dariwn Abrenica Aquino said.
The man’s companions reportedly tried to rescue him, but their efforts were unsuccessful due to the strong current caused by floodwaters.
“Unya ang mga kaubanan, misulay pa og lukso aron luwason unta, apan tungod sa kakusog sa haguros sa tubig, (wala madayon) kay niadtong tungura, miulan sa bukid hangtod dinhi,” Aquino added.
