The Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-11) is verifying reports that the cellphone signal of the father-and-son suspects in the Bondi Beach mass shooting in Australia was detected in the Cotabato area.
PRO-11 spokesperson, Major Catherine Dela Rey, did not disclose other details apart from saying that the signal was reportedly picked up in Cotabato.
However, she emphasized that the information still needs verification.
“Ang possibility is niabot sila didto nganong naa man wala man gud ta kahibalo sa glitches sa technology. Hinoon ni-coordinate ta didto nga area kung in fact nakaabot ba gyud didto?” Dela Rey said.
Authorities confirmed earlier that the suspects stayed in Davao City from November 1 to 28, 2025, prior to the mass shooting in Bondi Beach on December 14, 2025.
The mass shooting killed 16 people and injured dozens more, according to authorities.
The 50-year-old suspect was killed at the scene while his 24-year-old son was in critical condition in the hospital.
PRO-11 also maintained that there are no known terrorist training grounds in the Davao Region, and Australian authorities have not found evidence suggesting that the suspect underwent military-style training in the Philippines.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said that coordination will continue regarding the investigation, and reaffirmed the Philippine’s commitment to counter-terrorism, combating violent extremism, and strengthening intelligence and law enforcement cooperation with Australia.
