A landslide incident occurred at a private landfill facility in Barangay Binaliw late afternoon on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival confirmed the incident in an official statement.
Archival said that disaster response teams and first responders have been deployed immediately for immediate response, rescue operations, and assessment to ensure the safety of individuals in the area.
Archival also confirmed of persons trapped in a collapsed structure.
The Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Command Center is yet to release an official count of persons affected.
“Based on preliminary reports, adunay mga tawo nga na-trap, ug medical assistance ug emergency support karon naa na sa site,” he said.
As of this writing, the mayor is set to proceed to the site.
“I am closely monitoring the situation ug moadto ko mismo sa Binaliw landfill as soon as possible aron personal nga i-check ang kahimtangan ug i-coordinate ang sunod nga mga aksyon,” he added.
He urged to public to stay calm and to avoid the area while responders are performing their tasks.
“We ask the public to remain calm ug palihug likayi una ang area aron makalihok og tarong ang atong responders,” Archival also said.
