The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is one of most corrupt government agencies in the country that needs cleansing, according to Secretary Juanito Victor (Jonvic) Remulla of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Remulla said that the BFP is among government agencies on DILG's priority list for cleansing.

“Lilinisin din namin ang BFP. The BFP in my opinion is one of the most corrupt organizations in the country and we gonna do all efforts para matigil na ang corruption nila,” Remulla said.

Remulla enumerated that at BFP, the sale of fire extinguishers, the procurement of sprinklers, the processing of building permit, and many more, are laden with anomaly.

The DILG, he said, is set to tighten further its monitoring on BFP personnel.

“Nag-produce kami ng 15,000 body cameras para sa mga inspectors. So 24 hours yan. Basta naisuot na nila yan, hindi na nila pwedeng patayin. Lahat ng conversations nila ngayon recorded na, so wala nang kalokohan, mare-record naming lahat yan, ma-aaccess namin at any time,” Remulla added.

Remulla’s statement did not come as a surprise to an official of BFP Region 6, citing the DILG secretary already issued a similar statement in 2025.

SSupt. Bartolome Beliran, assistant regional director for operations of BFP 6, said that there are cases of corruption investigated by the BFP 6.

“Wala pang proven at nakasuhan but may mga nag-arise ring issues regarding that. But we are taking every step para magawan ng aksyon,” Beliran said.

He assured that they are focused tightly on the cases along with a reminder to BFP personnel in the region involved in any form of corruption.

“Ang ating BFP does not tolerate corruption and we are zero tolerance with regards to corruption. Ini-encourage rin natin ang public na kung may ginagawang activities ang ating mga personnel na bukas ang ating tanggapan,” he added.
