Authorities seized alleged smuggled cigarettes worth around P10 million at a checkpoint in Panacan, Davao City on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

According to a report by GMA Super Radyo Davao, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said a wing van driven by a 42-year-old man, along with two other men, 25 and 31 years old, was intercepted at the checkpoint.

Police said when officers asked the driver and his companions about the contents of the vehicle, the driver reportedly admitted that they were transporting smuggled cigarettes.

The driver was directed to open the vehicle, and authorities found around 200 sealed master cases of suspected smuggled cigarettes worth around P10 million.

The items confiscated were turned over to the Bureau of Customs.

The driver and his companions, on the other hand, were taken into police custody and may face charges for violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, Graphic Health Warning Law, and the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Act.
