A 35-year-old man was found dead constricted by a snake at a dike in Barangay Bolilao in Mandurriao, Iloilo.

The man, identified as Julius Perez of Hibao-an Sur, was found in front of the house of another resident.

A video showed the snake coiled around Perez’ neck - the man motionless.

Residents in the area cut the head of the snake off to release Perez. Despite this, efforts to save him were unsuccessful.

The snake was estimated to be three meters long and estimated to weigh 12 kilos.

The police said it is possible that Perez may have stepped on the snake before he got attacked.

Perez sustained bites on his knees and arms. Police said he died of strangulation.

“Strangulation or constriction ng katawan ng tao. Kung kinu-constrict ang katawan natin, ini-impede ang blood circulation at ang flow ng hangin or oxygen sa ating katawan,” said Capt. Val Camblel, Office-in-charge of Iloilo City Police Station 10.

Investigation showed that Perez only went to the area to attend a wake.

Residents in the area said they would see snakes at the creek often but this was the first time they saw one this big.

The barangay, nevertheless, said the area is being cleaned regularly.
