A truck driver died after the closed van truck he was driving crashed into a passenger bus in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental over the weekend.
Based on investigation, the bus was traveling from the eastern part of the province while the closed van truck was coming from the west and heading toward Gingoog City.
Upon reaching Barangay Mandahilag, the bus allegedly overshot after it encroached into the truck’s lane, which resulted in the collision.
“Mao na lang to naay nadungog ang mga witness didto, mga residente nga naa’y kaning buto. So mao to siya nga katung bus iyaha gyud nabanggaan tung van pud nga anaa didto sa kaning right side,” Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Capt. Geraldine Botanas, said.
Because of the impact, the truck driver was decapitated while his companion survived. The bus driver was also unharmed, but several passengers sustained injuries.
“So naa pud ta’y pito ka mga kaning samaran, mao to dinalian nga gidala didto sa Cagayan de Oro (nga hospital) then naa dayun to’y uban nga mga minor injuries lang,” Botanas added.
The bus driver was taken into police custody after the incident but was released later after both parties reportedly reached an agreement.
