A 29-year-old security guard was shot dead while sleeping in a hammock at a storehouse of the security agency where he worked at in Barangay Mabuhay, General Santos City around 2 a.m. on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Authorities isaid the victim was a resident of Baluntay, Alabel, Sarangani.
He sustained a gunshot wound in the forehead.
Based on investigation, the victim and the son of a store owner were drinking prior to the incident.
Later, the victim and the store owner’s son reportedly figured in an altercation.
“Bago nahitabo ning insidente, nag-inum pa sila. Actually napangutana natu ang tindahan kung asa sila nagpalit og ilimnun, confirm…Bago nahitabo ang pagtulog, nila, naay sumpaki or paglalis nga hitabo,” Police Station 9 Commander, Major Ian Vistal Bagot, said.
The store owner’s son was considered as a person of interest and was taken into police custody.
The victim’s colleague, another security guard, was also subjected to a paraffin test and further investigation.
Investigators are looking into personal grudge as possible motive.
“Nangutana pud mi sa iyang mga kauban, previously naa pud diay siyay nakalalis nga kauban sa agency. Kini ang atung ginatan aw nga anggulo personal grudge,” Bagot added.
