Five athletes from Talisay City, Cebu were honored and given their financial reward during the Charter Day celebration on January 12, 2026.

The five athletes won in the Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December 2025.

Two of the athletes, Raven Faith Alcoseba and Andrew Kim Remolina, won gold, silver and bronze medals in triathlon.

As the Talisay City Government commits to further sports programs, it opened its pickle ball and padel court morning on January 12.

The 25th Charter Day of Talisay City was carried out in a simple celebration. A wreath-laying in memory of Eduardo (Eddie) Gullas, former representative of Cebu 1st District and proponent of the cityhood of Talisay took place. He passed away on November 6, 2025.

A Holy Mass opened the celebration in front of the Talisay City Hall, followed by the laying of wreath before an image of the late congressman. His grandson, the incumbent mayor of Talisay City, Gerald Anthony (Samsam) Gullas, led the commemoration.

The mayor pointed out that the celebration was made simple as the city is yet on the road to recovery after Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) brought an unprecedented level of flooding on November 4, 2025.

Despite the challenges, the mayor underscored that the city is back on its feet, thanks to the timeless “bayanihan” spirit, or the mutual cooperation shared by communities.

Meanwhile, the highlight of the Charter Day in 2026 is the mass wedding of 76 couples on January 8.

The mass wedding was officiated by 13 priests.

The Talisay City Government offered free of charge the processing of documents and up to the couples' reception.

The "lechon baboy" or the famous "inasal" (roast pig) of Talisay is among the staples on the banquet table for the 76 couples.
