More than 100,000 devotees are expected to join the Feast of Señor Santo Niño in General Santos City.
Vendors have already set up stalls to sell statues and images of the Santo Niño in Barangay Bula a few days before the feast on January 15, 2026.
Prices for the images range from P150 to P600. An image of the Santo Niño called “palaboy” is also sold at P1,800.
“Kaning mga stock namo sa Davao, Cebu, ang uban pud Manila,” a vendor, Sheryl Sarita, said.
A barangay official said preparations are in full swing, including the traditional street dancing called “isda-isdaan,” which will be participated by various groups in the city.
“Han-ay na gud sir kay nagready naman mi sa tanang mga men in uniform…gi-arrange na gyud namu tanan pati kanang mga activity sa simbahan,” Barangay Bula Chairwoman Nicanora Vargas said.
The celebration is expected to draw more than 100,000 people from the city and different parts of the country. Most of the attendees are set to participate in fluvial parade.
Tight security will be implemented and around 500 police personnel will be deployed to ensure public safety.
“Kabalo man ta nag dunay dugay na nga celebration, nightly activities, unya naa pa tay daku nga fluvial parade…naa pud Philippine coast guard, Philippine navy nag-alalay ana,” General Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) Director, Col. Nicomedes Olaivar Jr., said.
