A 43-year-old rider died while his 30-year-old female companion was injured after they were shot in Polanco, Zamboanga del Norte.

Police said the victims were navigating the road when motorcycle-riding suspects shot them when they reached Purok Kawayan in Barangay De Venta.

“Ang mga biktima, nagbiyahe kini sa munisipyo sa Sergio Osmeña padulong sa Polanco sakay sa usa ka motorsiklo dihang kalit sila’ng gipusil sa duha ka wala mailhing lalaki nga suspects nga nagsakay usab og motorsiklo gamit ang wala pa nga mailhing armas,” Polanco Municipal Police Station OIC Chief, Capt. Gwyn Celestino, said.

Rescuers brought the victims to a hospital after the rider sustained gunshot wounds in the head and back while his companion sustained gunshot wounds in the arm and stomach.

However, the rider died.

Meanwhile, during the incident, the rider’s motorcycle lost control and hit a 25-year-old woman who was waiting for a ride to school.

She sustained injuries and is being treated at a hospital, as of this writing.

“Human sa pagpamusil, nawala sa control ang motorsiklo nga miresulta sa ikaduhang bangga sa usa ka estudyante nga bystander, naghulat og sakyanan paingon sa eskwelahan,” Celestino said.

Authorities are investigating the incident to identify the perpetrators and determine the motive.

The police have already identified persons of interest.

“Naa na ta’y persons-of-interest, kani ang among gina-remain confidential para dili maapektuhan ang padayon nga imbestigasyon ug mapanalipdan ang integridad sa ebidensya nga anaa nato,” Celestino added.
