A female rider died while her companion is in critical condition, as of this writing, after a wing van truck crashed into the motorcycle they were riding in Barangay Quiniput, Zamboanga City on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Based on investigation, the truck was following the motorcycle as both vehicles were navigating the road.

Police said the truck driver lost control of the vehicle, prompting him to honk at the motorcycle. However, the motorcycle rider only glanced, reportedly, and slowed down, which resulted in the collision.

“Sa dihang gipituhan niya, nag-slow down ang motor, milingi kini ug nadasmag sa ilaha kay pabahada man to. Nabangga sa ilaha ang motor. Ang kanang motor mipailawon gayod,” Police Station 2 Investigator, Staff Sergeant Ramil Oguado, said.

To stop the vehicle, the truck driver maneuvered it to the roadside until it crashed into a tree.

The rider’s feet were trapped under the motorcycle. Her female companion was also injured. They were brought to a hospital, but the rider was declared dead on arrival.

Settlement between both parties continues, as of this writing.
