A farmer allegedly involved in a kidnapping-for-ransom case was arrested during an operation in Maguing, Lanao del Sur on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) said the suspect was arrested at his house.

PNP-AKG said the operation was launched after the victim identified as alias “Nur” reportedly escaped after being held captive for about four days.

Authorities said the suspect arrested was allegedly the one guarding the victim.

Based on investigation, the kidnappers allegedly used the victim’s cellphone and demanded a ransom of P3 million from the victim’s family.

The suspects allegedly called again on January 8, 2026, to reiterate their demand. The victim’s family filed a formal complaint on January 9.

However, the victim escaped on January 13 and was recovered by authorities in Barangay Dilimbayan.

“This laudable accomplishment proves the resolute commitment of the AKG and its partner agencies for a relentless pursue of lawbreakers and let them face the consequence of their acts,” PNP AKG Director, Brigadier General Glicerio Cansilao, said.
