A fire broke out at the office of the Department of Public Works and Highways–Cordillera Administrative Region (DPWH-CAR) in Baguio City, damaging office equipment, authorities said.

The incident happened at around 5 p.m. on January 14, 2026 at the DPWH-CAR office in Engineer’s Hill, according to the Baguio City Fire Station.

Initial reports said the fire started inside the Financial Management Records Room, affecting an area of about one square meter. Firefighters were able to put the blaze under control after more than 40 minutes.

Authorities estimated the damage to office equipment at around ₱35,000. No injuries were reported.

Baguio City Fire Station spokesperson SFO1 Ashley Lloyd Furigay said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

“Under investigation pa rin ‘yung status niya. Nag-gather muna tayo ng mga evidences tsaka mga samples for electrical, for analysis po,” Furigay said.

Based on a report submitted by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) to the Baguio City local government, a utility worker first noticed smoke coming from the records section of the office. Employees initially tried to put out the fire using fire extinguishers before firefighters arrived.

In a statement, DPWH Cordillera said it is closely coordinating with the BFP and the Baguio City local government to support a thorough investigation into the incident.

The BFP said it will release more details once the investigation is completed.
