A massive fire lit up the night sky in Barangay Macayug, San Jacinto, Pangasinan while destroying a poultry farm and sending residents nearby into panic as flames spread rapidly across the area.
The fire broke out at around 8 p.m. and was extinguished fully at past 9 p.m. on January 14, 2026, according to authorities.
Videos shared by residents showed thick flames and smoke visible even from neighboring towns. The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the blaze originated inside the poultry farm and intensified quickly because the structure was made of light materials
“Talagang malaki yung sunog. Nagtakbuhan na lahat at nagtawag yung barangay. Nagtulong-tulong na lahat,” Rodelyn Orte, a resident, said.
A worker from the poultry farm, who asked not to be identified, told the GMA Regional TV News that the fire may have started from equipment that sparked inside the facility. The worker said they tried to put the fire out, but the flames spread too fast and eventually engulfed the entire poultry farm
San Jacinto Fire Station Acting Marshal, FINS P. Armando Ramos, said no chicken was affected because the poultry farm had already harvested its stock last year.
“Wala pong nadamay na or affected na sisiw o chicken doon sa poultry kasi nag-harvest na po sila last year,” Ramos said
Ramos said the fire spread through heat transfer, aided by environmental factors such as wind.
“Kumalat po yung sunog through heat transfer. Kasi alam naman po natin na ‘yung outside factors gaya ng hangin, nagkakaroon po ‘yan ng absorption ng heat from one structure to the other,” he said
Drone footage shared with GMA Regional TV showed the extent of the damage, with the entire structure reduced to ruins.
The BFP said the fire reached third alarm, but no injuries were reported. Authorities have yet to determine the total cost of the damage
