At least two ash emission events were recorded on Mount Kanlaon in Negros Island within a 24-hour observation period.

According to the January 16, 2026 advisory of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the ash emission events from 12 a.m. on January 15 to 12 a.m. on January 16 spanned 23 minutes to 186 minutes long.

The moderate emission events generated plumes that reached 500 meters tall and drifted south-southeast, south, and southeast.

At least 46 volcano-tectonic (VT) earthquakes were recorded.  Sulfur dioxide flux reached 1,298 tons as of January 15. 

The volcano edifice remains inflated. 

Alert Level 2 prevails over Mount Kanlaon, which means that the volcano is in a state of increased unrest.
