A commander of the Coast Guard Zamboanga Sibugay Station was shot dead inside his vehicle in Barangay Veteran’s Village, Ipil town evening on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
According to the Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office, the 32-year-old victim had just bought a drink from a nearby coffee shop and was on a phone call when an unidentified motorcycle-riding gunman shot him at close range before fleeing.
The victim sustained gunshot wounds in the head and chest. He died on the spot.
“Pagbili niya doon ng milk tea then may tumawag sa kanya thru cellphone, pagtawag sa kanya, bale maingay, lumabas siya at pumunta siya doon sa kanyang sasakyan. Habang may kausap siya doon sa sasakyan, doon yung suspect natin, binaril na siya doon sa loob,” Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Lt. Gina Magnaye, said.
Authorities are still investigating the incident to identify the assailant and determine the motive.
PCG extended its sympathies to the bereaved family and is coordinating with the police to facilitate a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served.
