Classes in several towns in Misamis Oriental and barangays in Cagayan de Oro City were suspended on Friday, January 16, 2026, due to the inclement weather brought by Tropical Storm #AdaPH.
Major parts of Northern Mindanao experienced heavy rains since dawn.
To ensure the safety of students, face-to-face classes in the towns of Opol, Magsaysay, Jasaan, Lagongong, Claveria, Villanueva, and Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental were suspended.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has been monitoring the weather condition closely.
“For now, naa’y pipila ka mga LGU nga niundang na ang uwan dinhi sa west nga bahin light na lang so far ang karong mga orasa,” PDRRMO Head, Fernandy Vincent Dy, said.
“Kung unsay advisory sa local nga panggamhanan dili nato pangutan-on, suwayan og sukol ato na lang tuohan,” he added.
In Cagayan de Oro City, the local government has not issued an official city-wide class suspension. However, six barangays known to be prone to flooding suspended classes in all levels.
These barangays are Bugo, Canitoan, Pagatpat, Bulua, Puntod, and Balubal.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard Cagayan de Oro Station also suspended trips of small sea vessels temporarily due to possible high waves.
Larger vessels bound for Cebu continue to operate as usual.
