An incumbent barangay chairman in Arakan, Cotabato, and his nephew, a member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU), were killed in a shooting incident in Barangay Greenfield morning on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
Police identified the victims as Jerry Prande, chairman of Barangay Malibatuan and Gemar Prande, a CAFGU member assigned to the Dallag Detachment Charlie Coy, 72nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army.
Based on investigation, the victims were traveling along Arakan-Magpet Road from Barangay Doroluman going toward Barangay Malibatuan on board a motorcycle when six suspects riding three motorcycles shot them several times.
The victims sustained gunshot wounds and were thrown into a canal along the roadside.
Investigators are looking into revenge as possible motive.
Four of the suspects have been identified and are now being pursued by the police.
Investigation into the incident continues, as of this writing.
