A 46-year-old traffic enforcer in Opol, Misamis Oriental died after the motorcycle he was driving crashed into a car in Barangay Barra on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Based on investigation, the victim was heading to Cagayan de Oro City where he lived when he allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with the oncoming car driven by a 33-year-old man.

Because of the impact, the victim was thrown off. He did not reach the hospital alive.

The driver of the car also reportedly lost control, causing the vehicle to crash into a parking area, where it hit five motorcycles.

“Which is pag(maneho) niya kay nawad-an man pud siya’g kontrol iya pud to nabanggaan ang lima ka mga motorcycle nga naka-park didto nga area,” Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office Spokesperson, Capt. Geraldine Botanas, said.

The driver of the car was taken into police custody after the incident.

However, he was released on Monday, January 19, 2026, after all parties, including the owners of the damaged motorcycles, reportedly reached an agreement.

Police reminded motorists to always prioritize road safety.

“Hunahunaon gyud nato nga ato gyud i-priority ang safety first kanang atong speed tapos atong palibot, ato gyud bantayan, before ta mag-overtake ato gyud i-clear daan ang atoang dalan,” Botanas added.
