A man was rescued while 14 others are still missing, as of this writing, after the recreational banca they were riding allegedly capsized off Davao Occidental on Monday, January 19, 2026.
According to the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao (CGDSEM), the recreational MBCA Amejara carrying 11 passengers and four crew members was reported missing on Monday, January 19, 2026.
It was reportedly heading to Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental from Sta. Ana Wharf, Davao City.
The Coast Guard Station Davao Occidental said the vessel was sighted last in the waters off Sarangani, Davao Occidental around 3 p.m.
CGDESM deployed eight floating assets and an aircraft for the search and rescue operation around 10:46 a.m. on Tuesday, which resulted in the rescue of one crew member.
The survivor was given assistance and transported for medical attention.
Authorities urged all watercrafts and fisherfolk transiting within Davao Gulf to report any sightings of the banca, particularly in the waters of Malita, Sta. Maria, and Don Marcelino towns, as well as the vicinity waters of Balut Island, Sarangani Island, Jose Abad Santos, North Jose Abad Santos, and Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental.
“We assure that the Search and Rescue team will continue doubling its effort and do everything to locate the passengers and ensure their safety,” CGDSEM said.
