One of two propsmen of the Carcar City contingent in the Sinulog Festival 2026 is in critical condition after they fell off a truck that carried their props.
The props snagged reportedly a dangling telecommunication wire.
The incident happened along the national highway in Barangay Lawaan 3, Talisay City past 8 p.m. on January 19, 2026 while the contingent is on its way home to Carcar City in south Cebu.
The 50-year-old truck driver went emotional upon learning that the 38-year-old propsman is in critical condition, while the other propsman suffered a fracture on the left arm. He apologized to the two propsmen and to their respective families.
Five were on board the truck. One occupied the passenger’s seat, while three were on the back with the props.
The three served as spotters to supposedly avoid dangling wires and cables.
The truck was moving reportedly in a slow pace as it was on a convoy with other accompanying vehicles.
According to Jonathan Tumulak, chief of the City of Talisay-Traffic Operation and Development Authority (CT-TODA), the truck was from Cebu City for the contingent's repeat performance after Carcar City won third place in the Sinulog-based category.
However, while the convoy was on the move, props snagged a dangling wire. The wire stretched and flicked on backdrops used by the contingent which created a dangerous rebound that threw off the propsmen in the process.
The driver said he was startled by the loud thud at the back of the vehicle, and the vehicle getting stuck.
Traffic police took custody of the truck driver while waiting for the decision of the propsmen's respective families.
The Local Government Unit of Carcar City took charge of the medical expenses of the two propsmen.
As of this writing, the entity that owns the telco wire is being traced.
The Talisay Council has reiterated its one-pole policy, following the incident, said Councilor Danny Caballero, chairperson of the Committee on Disaster Resiliency.
