Instead of joy at the arrival of Overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Mary Jill Muya at the airport in Iloilo, members of her family are grieving.
After 20 years of employment in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Muya's remains arrived back home.
On December 31, 2025, Muya was found dead inside her room in Abu Dhabi.
Until now, the reason behind her death is not clear to her family.
The remains were taken to a funeral parlor prior to her coming home to Barangay Cubay, Jaro, Iloilo City.
“Dahil nasa freezer siya, hinihintay pa bago ma-embalsamo. Sabi sa amin ng OWWA na baka matagalan ang forensic report so nagdesisyon kaming unahin na lang ang remains ni mama,” alias “Boy,” Muya’s son, said.
The family is thankful that the body of the Ilongga OFW has arrived home finally. However, they continue to call for justice.
“Umaasa kami na malaman namin kung ano ang katotohanan at cause of death ni mama dahil wala kaming pinanghahawakang patunay kung ano talaga ang nangyari kay mama,” Muya’s son added.
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) 6 assured assistance to Muya’s family.
As of this writing, her family is complying with the documents and requirements financial help that her family will receive from the government.
