The Island Garden City of Samal in Davao del Norte has begun preparations for the reopening of Hagimit Falls after nearly four years of closure.
Local government officials conducted an on-site inspection on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, as part of the first phase of the reopening.
Officials checked the area to determine the needs before reopening one of the city’s most well-known eco-tourism destinations to the public.
During the inspection, officials identified the need for proper signages, lifeguards, forest rangers to prevent vandalism, and clearly marked swimming areas.
The local government aims to reopen Hagimit Falls before the end of the first quarter of 2026.
Authorities reminded the public to help keep the area clean and protected by practicing proper waste disposal and environmental responsibility.
Hagimit Falls was closed in 2022 based on Executive Order No. 64, which was issued to allow rehabilitation and conservation of the eco-tourism site.
