Vice President Sara Duterte claimed that the filing of another impeachment complaint against her could be another scheme by some members of the House of Representatives to allegedly raise funds.
Duterte said the expected impeachment bid would be similar to past attempts where lawmakers allegedly treated the process as an opportunity to raise funds through signatures.
“Magiging katulad lang din ‘yan noong nakaraan na ginagawang fund raising ng mga members ng House of the Representatives ‘yung pagpirma nila sa impeachment. It’s all about money,” Duterte said.
Duterte made the statement after reports surfaced that another impeachment complaint would be filed against her once the one-year bar rule expires in February 2026.
The Vice President hinted earlier that the 2026 national budget might be used as leverage to pressure anyone into filing an impeachment complaint against her.
It can be recalled that the Supreme Court declared the fourth impeachment complaint against Duterte unconstitutional in July 2025.
GMA Regional TV One Mindanao is reaching out to Congress for a statement, as of this writing.
Meanwhile, Duterte refused to comment on the impeachment complaint faced by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., saying she will wait for developments in the coming days.
On Monday, January 19, Atty. Andre De Jesus filed the first impeachment complaint against Marcos before the House of Representatives.
The complaint cited allegations of graft and corruption, culpable violation of the Constitution, and betrayal of public trust for surrendering former President Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC) without due process.
Malacañang said the filing of complaints is part of the democratic process under the Constitution.
Davao City First District Rep. Paolo Duterte said the public is being drowned by what he called a “half-baked” impeachment case, while the real scandals – those involving power, money, and blood ties – remain untouched.
He claimed that the “impeachment drama” is being used to shift attention away from the alleged large-scale corruption while protecting their allies.
“This is no longer coincidence. This is a pattern. Create noise with impeachment drama. Divert attention from big-money corruption. Protect the inner circle at all costs,” Rep. Duterte said.
