Classes in the Province of Sultan Kudarat and government work in three towns have been suspended until further notice due to a series of earthquakes.
In an executive order issued on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Governor Datu Pax Ali Mangudadatu ordered the suspension of classes in all levels both in public and private schools across the province until further notice.
Work in all government offices, including national government agencies, in the towns of Kalamansig, Lebak, and Palimbang is also suspended until further notice, except for offices and personnel providing essential and emergency services.
A blended work arrangement, combining work-from-home setup and on-site reporting, is being implemented in all government offices outside the three municipalities.
The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), in coordination with concerned municipal and city DRRM offices, is directed to monitor the situation, conduct safety and structural assessments, and submit regular reports to the governor.
Mangudadatu issued the order after the province continue to experience tremors, as of this writing.
“the Province of Sultan Kudarat has recently experienced a series of earthquakes and possible aftershocks that pose risks to public safety and the structural integrity of buildings,” the order reads.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) recorded around 400 consecutive weak to moderate earthquakes from 10:52 p.m. on January 19, 2026 until 1 p.m. on January 21, 2026 off the coast of Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.
PHIVOLCS added that 135 of the 400 earthquakes were plotted, with magnitudes ranging from 1.5 to 5.2. Twenty of these earthquakes were felt, and their corresponding intensities were recorded.
