Authorities destroyed more than ₱186 million worth of marijuana in a six-day eradication operation in remote areas of Ilocos Sur and Benguet, as part of the government’s intensified anti-drug campaign.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) carried out the operation from January 16 to January 21, 2026 in the mountainous parts of Barangay Licungan in Sugpon, Ilocos Sur, and Barangay Tacadang in Kibungan, Benguet. Operatives searched more than 100,000 square meters of land during the mission.
Officials discovered 144 marijuana plantation sites and destroyed more than 628,000 fully grown marijuana plants. They also uprooted over 211,000 marijuana seedlings and seized about 135 kilograms of fruiting tops.
PDEA said the operation forms part of the government’s strengthened efforts to stop the production and spread of illegal drugs.
